Alfa Laval is a leading global provider of specialized products and engineered solutions. Alfa Laval focuses on equipment, systems and services dedicated to helping customers to optimize the performance of their processes. Alfa Laval products help customers to heat, cool, separate and transport products such as oil, water, chemicals, beverages, foodstuffs, starch and pharmaceuticals.

BallastTech-NIVA AS has conducted both pilot and small scale tests of the Alfa Laval PureBallast system, and these tests have showed that PureBallast meets the IMO standards for ballast water treatment. The tests have been conducted under the supervision of DNV. Full scale land based tests were conducted in 2007 and established that the system met the IMO standards. Shipboard tests were conducted in 2006 and 2007 and established that the system met the IMO requirements. Pureballast were certified in June, 2008

OceanSaver AS was established in February 2003 for for the purpose of developing an efficient and unique solution for Ballast Water Treatment (BWT).The BWT system is also named OceanSaver® and is a registered trademark. OceanSaver AS is owned by StatoilHydro, Storebrand Livsforsikring, Leif Höegh & Co and the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation in addition to the founders.

BallastTech-NIVA AS has conducted tests of the OceanSaver® ballast water treatment system in 2007, and these tests confirm that OceanSaver® meets the IMO standards for ballast water treatment. The tests are conducted under the supervision of DNV.

OptiMarin AS based in Stavanger, Norway is one of the pioneers of the emerging ballast water treatment industry, with shipboard installations starting in April 2000. The OptiMarin Ballast System is based on filtration and a proprietary high powered UV. The OptiMarin Ballast System installed aboard the Princess Cruises Regal Princess was the worlds first ballast water treatment system aboard an operating vessel. OptiMarin AS has since delivered another 6 systems to make a total of 7 systems onboard 7 vessels. OOptimarins products have been developed based on years of experience in the shipping, offshore, and water treatment industries.

Full scale tests were conducted in 2008 and shipboard testing is being undertaken to establish whether the system fully meets the IMO standards.
